When you’re first getting started with Morning Baskets, it can seem overwhelming to keep track of the planning. Knowing what activities you’ve done recently, what supplies are needed, and how to target a variety of skill areas is a skill we learn as homeschool parents. But there’s an easier way to keep track than using paper planners and saving them for weeks on end until you might need them again. My answer? Using a Notion Morning Basket Activity Planner! Keep reading to learn how I plan and why I use Notion for all of my planning needs!

How to Plan a Morning Basket

When planning a Morning Basket, it’s important to have a balance of activities. The first thing you should do is decide what skill and learning areas you’d like to cover with the basket. In our Preschool Morning Basket, I currently tackle:

  • Creativity (Arts and Music)

  • Fine Motor Skills

  • Gross Motor Skills

  • Literacy

  • Math

  • Problem Solving and Strategy

Once you’ve decided on your skill and learning areas, choose 1-2 activities from each category to add to our Morning Basket. While I always include our read aloud(s) for the week, I also include an additional literacy activity to target either letter/sound recognition or phonological awareness.

With younger children, the activities may not always fit in the basket. That’s ok! You can add just place the container or materials next to the morning basket for your child to engage with.

Using a Morning Basket Planner

Whether you use the free Morning Basket Activities Planner for Notion or try something else, I highly recommend you use some sort of planner for your Morning Baskets! Why?

Planning activities is time consuming, especially if you’re using Pinterest to find fun and engaging learning tasks. With everything else happening in our brains raising and educating small humans, these activities tend to be the first thing to leave our minds. With a Morning Basket Activities Planner, you have a nice (hopefully organized) catalog of ideas to pull from. It’s also a great place to store activities for the future!

The free Morning Basket Activities Planner for Notion has the additional benefit of being easy to sort and filter! Without changing a thing, your activities can be sorted into the six categories I list above. You can easily indicate whether an activity is on the list for this week and whether or not it’s prepped. You can also indicate whether or not an activity is a favorite, making it easy to find something to add on a Sunday night when you’re just ready to go to sleep!
